Lamont Maddox returned to the PIH staff in August of 2005
after assisting with the project in 2000-2001. He is currently
working on PIH case editing. Other responsibilities include
coordinating Persistent Issues in History (PIH) Seminars
and facilitating communication between the Project Directors
and Seminar Fellows.
Prior to returning to Auburn University, Lamont was employed
as a social studies teacher at Smiths Station High School
in Smiths Station, AL from 2001-2005. He also served as
a dual enrollment adjunct professor for the U.S. History
course as part of a Chattahoochee Valley Community College
program. Lamont was recognized by Superintendent Painter
for his leadership as chair of the Measures of Success (School
Improvement) Committee for two years. During his tenure
at SSHS, Lamont was named the “Rookie Teacher of the
Year” and “Teacher of the Month” on several
occasions. His most coveted award was the Betty Floyd Memorial
Award given by a student organization to the most dedicated
teacher.
Aside
from his responsibilities associated with the PIH Workshop,
Lamont supervises pre-service teachers in the Secondary
Social Science Education program. He also supervises lab
experiences in the CTSE 4050 and 4060 courses.
Lamont
earned his B.S. degree in Secondary Social Science Education
in 1996 and a M.A. in Secondary Social Science Education
in 2001. Both degrees were earned at Auburn University.
He also serves as a Captain and certified instructor for
the United States Army Reserve.
